Water of Leith
Leith cannot deny their past as an industrial harbour, and people don't seem to try. Many remnants of technical devices are still there, rotting -- or preserved and newly painted. In between: Posh restaurants and new apartement houses with a view on the waters.
The path along the river can be walked over longer distances, unless there are repair works going on. You can reach the romantic "mill quarter" below Dean Bridge on foot, we preferred to ride on a bus. Also the Victorian era was engaged in embellishing the valley and express their idea of what is romantic.
